Dimensions Measurement and Ends

Grasp the spring base with one hand and hold the calipers with the other.
Position the calipers on the outermost coil to measure the largest dimension, the Outside Diameter (O.D.).
Place the calipers on the wire at the center of the spring to determine the Wire or Material Size. For accuracy, measure the wire towards one end as well.
Extend the calipers along the uncompressed spring length to measure the Free Length.
Count all coils from one end, including partial ones, to determine the total count. Refer to a diagram for clarity if needed.
